If Foods are Making You Sick?….The ALCAT Test is Your Solution!
The foods we eat can cause Inflammation & Chronic Activation of our Immune System. Each of us have food sensitivities and food intolerances that cause a cellular reactivity after exposure to our blood system. This intolerance to certain foods is related to many chronic inflammatory conditions such as the following:
Digestive Disorders Includinf IBS, Diarrhea, and Constipation
Migraines & Headaches
Obesity, Unexplained Weight Gain & Inability to Lose Weight
Joint Pain & Arthritis
Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue
Food Allergies vs. Food Intolerances
What is the difference between a food allergy and a food intolerance?
A food allergy can cause life threatening reactions such as swelling of the tongue and throat. It can be a very scary episode and very recognizable.
Food intolerance is not as noticeable as an allergy and may go undiagnosed for a lifetime. Food intolerances, although not immediately life threatening, can cause many health issues.
Food allergies cause severe reactions in the body by activating the immune system, sometimes resulting in the most severe of reactions known as anaphylaxis.
Food intolerances create reactions within the actual cells of the body resulting in immune responses. These responses trigger white blood cells to activate which then creates inflammation. This inflammation can create problems throughout the body including digestive, emotional, skin, joint, or virtually any system within the body. Food intolerances can actually go much further than just foods, but can include food additives, chemicals, medications, food spores, molds and fungus.
A big issue with identifying these intolerances is that the effects may not show up immediately, it may take days before the symptoms appear and then it is difficult to pin point what caused the symptom. Even with the use of a food journal tracking what foods you have eaten, the intolerance could be due to a food additive making it more difficult to pin point which food caused the symptoms because of the many ingredients contained in many pre packaged foods today.
What is the ALCAT process?
The determination of whether the ALCAT is right for you is done through a questionnaire that you will fill out in our office and then through an examination by one of our licensed healthcare professionals. Once it has been determined that you are a candidate for the ALCAT test it is conducted by a whole blood test. A blood sample will be drawn by one of our qualified technicians and sent off the ALCAT lab. Typically the results are returned to our office within two to three weeks. One of our licensed health care professionals will then go over the test results with you to explain what the results mean and how to alter your diet in order to get best results. You will also receive a copy of your results and a wallet card to keep on you at all times to help you to remember to which foods you are most sensitive.
The cost of the ALCAT is determined by the number of foods, food additives, medications, or environmental factors that are tested. In addition, the testing may be covered by your insurance or HSA. A quick insurance verification by our insurance office can let you know if your insurance covers the test and what your cost would be or if there is any cost to you.
If you suffer from any of the listed conditions and would like more information or you would like to schedule a consultation call our office at 615-745-3855 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
